I offer the following services:

Developmental Editing/Substantive Editing

If you’ve got a complete (or partially complete) early draft, we’ll work together to shape it into a cohesive whole. We’ll focus on character, setting, theme, pacing, plot and information flow (guiding what the audience knows and guesses about your story at any given moment).

The process if flexible, but I usually read through the material once, then take a few days to digest it. Then I’ll produce a document outlining my feedback. We can also discuss things on Skype. Once that’s finished you can go away and redraft based on my advice.

Copy Editing/Line Editing

For projects closer to completion, we move onto line editing. Here I’ll focus on polishing the text ready for publication. Every sentence will be scrutinized to ensure it’s pulling its full weight in your story!

Writing Coaching

If your project is still in development, or you just want more general feedback or advice on tackling a specific problem in your writing, then coaching may be the most effective approach. We’ll work on specific challenges in the context of your project, and then you can go away and apply the lessons learned. This is often cheaper and less overwhelming than full development or line editing, as it keeps things focused on just a few issues.
